NBE3U Complete Course: Understanding Contemporary First Nations, Métis and Inuit Voices
A free, complete semester of Grade 11 University English through First Nations, Métis and Inuit voices: six units, the independent study, a final evaluation, a course map, a day-by-day schedule covering every expectation and a course outline.
A complete, ready-to-teach semester of NBE3U, English: Understanding Contemporary First Nations, Métis, and Inuit Voices (Grade 11, University Preparation), free for every teacher. Every lesson is 75 minutes and the course covers 88 class periods, so it fits a standard Ontario semester.
Every unit mixes reading, writing, oral communication and media and ends with an assessment of learning and a four-level rubric. All 96 specific expectations of the 2019 curriculum are covered, and the day-by-day schedule shows where. Teacher notes recommend reviewing the course with your board's Indigenous education lead and inviting Elders, Knowledge Keepers or Métis Senators through board protocol, and include support resources wherever residential schools and loss come up. Contemporary texts are chosen by the teacher from board-approved resources (titles only); public domain writing by Indigenous authors of the past is included in full as historical context.
This download has every lesson as editable Word and PowerPoint files, plus the course map, schedule, overviews, summative tasks, readers and final evaluation as PDFs. Each unit page below also has a download with PDFs of every lesson.
Teaching outside Ontario?
A full Grade 11 English course built on First Nations, Métis and Inuit literature, oral traditions and media. It fits any senior course on Indigenous literatures in Canada. Teachers elsewhere can use the skills and structure, but the content is rooted in Indigenous Nations and treaties in Canada; review it with your local Indigenous education lead. Everything comes as editable Word and PowerPoint files, so you can replace the Ontario expectation codes with your own standards and adjust the evaluation plan to your school's rules. Prices are in Canadian dollars.
