SNC2D Unit 1: Science Skills Launch
A short launch unit for the skills students use all year: lab safety, controlled inquiry and the lab report, significant digits and percent error, reliable sources and APA citations, and Canadian scientists and careers.

How do scientists plan safe investigations and trust their results? Students refresh lab safety for biology, chemistry and optics, run a controlled inquiry with antacid tablets in water, practise significant digits, percent error and unit conversions, judge sources for reliability and bias, cite them in APA format and research Canadian scientists and science careers. All data sets and sources are original, and the labs use cheap, common materials.
Assessment of learning: a Lab Skills Practical (a controlled inquiry on antacid tablets) with a full lab report and a rubric.
