ENG3U Unit 1: Through the Lens
Five critical lenses and five public domain stories (Leacock, Chopin, Gilman, Sui Sin Far, Mansfield), ending with a lens seminar and a literary analysis essay.

How do the lenses we read through change what a story means? Students learn reader-response, gender, class, race and power, and psychological lenses, then apply them to five classic short stories included in full in a Reading Packet, plus original micro-texts.
Assessment of learning: a lens essay (Reading and Writing) and a lens seminar (Oral Communication), with rubrics.
