SNC1W Unit 6: Science in Our Community (Culminating Task and Final)
The end of the course: a culminating design project on a real local problem, linked to STEM careers and skilled trades, plus a course review and an original final written exam with an answer key.

Everything to finish SNC1W. In teams of two or three, students find a real local problem tied to a STEM career or skilled trade, research it, write a proposal with a safety plan, then design, build, test and improve an experiment or prototype that draws on at least two science strands. They present at a class science fair and write an individual reflection. A model project (model rain gardens for a flooding schoolyard) runs through every lesson.
Includes the culminating task (suggested 10%, counted as classroom work) with a rubric and a project kit, and a 75-minute final written exam (20%) across all strands, with a worked answer key, matching Ontario's 2026–27 evaluation policy (65% classroom work, 20% final exam, 15% attendance and participation).
