ENL1W Unit 5: Lit Circles
Novels in literature circles: a book tasting, six rotating roles, four circle meetings and mini-lessons on point of view, flashback, juxtaposition, allusion, inference, theme and style, ending with a literary analysis and book talk.

How do authors use point of view and literary devices to make us see the world differently? Students choose a novel at a book tasting and read it in literature circles. Each circle meeting builds a discussion skill, and mini-lessons build the literary toolkit.
Works with any novels: teacher-chosen sets, a whole-class novel or independent choice reading. All model passages are original, and the overview includes suggested titles and options for using your own novel plan.
Assessment of learning: a literary analysis (paragraph series or short essay) and a group book talk, with rubrics.
