ENL1W Unit 1: Who I Am
Identity, voice and belonging: an identity iceberg, “Where I'm From” poems, point of view, memoir moves and a class story circle, ending with a personal narrative or spoken word showcase.

What shapes who we are, and how do we tell our own story? Students build identity icebergs, remix “Where I'm From” poems, try on different voices and points of view, and study memoir techniques using original model texts written for these lessons.
Assessment of learning: a personal narrative or spoken word piece, presented with a short artist's statement, with rubrics.
