Look-fors
Short, concrete things students can spot in strong work.
Self-assessment checklist
Students tick one box for each success criterion. It updates as you edit. Print the student handout to give everyone a copy.
Co-construction prompts
Questions to ask when you build the criteria with your class, often while looking at a strong sample together. These are for you, so they're left off the poster and handout.
Growing Success (2010) describes learning goals and success criteria as part of assessment for learning: students know what they're learning and what success looks like. Criteria tend to work best when students help build them, so try the co-construction prompts with a strong sample, then adjust the wording with your class. These are starting points, so check them against your course's curriculum expectations. Read more at ontario.ca.
